From how we speak to how we care, we’ve taken thoughtful steps to create a space that truly celebrates and supports our diverse community.
Here’s how we’re building a better experience for everyone:
A Genderless Booking Menu
We’ve restructured our service menu to focus on body parts rather than gender. This ensures that services are accessible and inclusive, without assuming anyone’s identity or expression. Whether you’re booking a laser, sugaring, or skincare appointment, you’ll only ever see language that refers to the body part, not the gender.
Preferred Pronouns in Client Profiles
We ask and respect your preferred pronouns on our consent forms, and we’ve added them to client profiles so our team can greet and refer to you correctly from the moment you walk in. It’s a simple yet powerful way to affirm identity and show respect.
Ongoing In-House Education
Our team regularly undergoes training to stay current on inclusive language, best practices, and evolving community needs. We’ve been honoured to be able to consult with the 519 community foundation to help build our education framework, as well as listening to the stories and suggestions from members of our team and our clients. We know that creating a safe space isn’t a one-time checkbox, it’s a continuous process of listening, learning, and showing up better.
Showing up for our community
Over the years we have partnered with various community groups and foundations to make sure that Sugarmoon Salon is giving back in the best way possible. We have an ongoing partnership with SOY Toronto which offers free health promotion services and programming centered on supporting the health and well-being goals of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. This month we are donating $1 from every product sold to SOY Toronto, as well as volunteering to help with some of their community events like Pride Prom.
Clear Safe Space Signage
We’ve made it visible that Sugarmoon is a safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals right at our front door. We want everyone to feel welcome loud and clear!
