Frequently Asked Question

what is the difference between bikini, g-string & brazilian?
For a bikini, we’ll clean up just the sides and top of your bikini line, anything that would show while wearing a bathing suit. For a G-string, we do the sides and top, (as with the bikini) but the thing that makes it different is that we’ll also do the back — in essence, we’ll remove any hair that might peek out if you’re wearing a thong. A Brazilian is the removal of all pubic hair; although if you like, we can leave a strip of hair.
your first 3 appointments are the most important
To see the best results, it is important that your first 3 sugaring sessions be booked close together, no more than a month between each appointment. These appointments will be the most effective at softening and reducing hair growth. After 3 consecutive treatments your overall hair density will be lowered and the stubborn coarse hair will be diminished.
are you 2SLGBTQ+ friendly
Absolutely! We welcome clients of all gender identities and expressions. We recognize all women who identify as women, and men who identify as men. For folks that identify as trans or non-binary, we welcome calls and emails to answer any questions you may have. We will make sure to book you with a technician trained to help meet your particular needs, your safety and comfort are our priority.
i am prone to ingrowns, what can I do to help this?
There are a few basic things you can do to reduce and get rid of ingrown hairs. First a foremost, exfoliate! Using a body scrub, natural bristle body brush, exfoliating cloth or brush two to three times per week you’ll keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under your skin. The second step is to keep your skin healthy and moisturized with something antibacterial and soothing like our Skin Relief Oil. A good rule of thumb is, whenever your skin gets wet (after every shower or bath) moisturize.
how long should my hair be?
For best results your hair should be a quarter of an inch long.
will it hurt as much as waxing?
Most people find that body sugaring hurts less than waxing, but it all depends on your own pain tolerance.
can I get sugared if I’m on my period?
For sure, we require anyone with an active menstrual cycle to use internal protection like a tampon or cup during the service, but we can certainly still do it. You may find you’re a little more sensitive during this time, so we also suggest taking a pain killer about 30 minutes before your service or picking up a numbing cream to apply about 45 minutes before your service.
can i get sugared if i’m using accutane or retinol products?
We suggest waiting 6 months after using Accutane and at minimum 4-6 weeks after using Retinol products before any facial sugaring.
how do i prepare for a lash tint?
Please make sure to arrive without contacts, concealer, eye makeup (mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow etc.) on the day of your appointment. avoid curling your natural lashes with a lash curler for 24 hours prior to your appointment.
how often should I get a facial?
Every 4-6 weeks is ideal, but not always manageable. We’d suggest coming in at least once per season as the weather is changing. You can also work facials around exciting life events, like a week before a wedding or big party, or just following a sunny vacation.
how do I choose a facial?
Depending on on your skin concern and how long a facial you’d like to receive, you can select from the list of facials available here or you can call and speak with one of our team members to find out what we’d suggest.
what tinting product are you using?
The RefectoCil brand has its origins in Vienna’s 9th district. Viennese hairdresser Josef Gschwentner experimented there with the development of his own hair colors in 1930 because he was dissatisfied with what the market had to offer. He launched the first professional hair dye, namely RefectoCil. His sons then began to make the product known internationally for its high quality. Rainer Deisenhammer took over the company in 2004 and started the development of an Austrian cosmetics company, GW Cosmetics, with the purchase of Weinzierl. Today, RefectoCil belongs to GW Cosmetics GmbH under the management of Mag. Rainer Deisenhammer, supplying more than 150 customers in 65 countries worldwide. The RefectoCil product range is intended exclusively for the hairdressing and make-up needs of specialists and professionals. All Sugarmoon staff are certified.
what can i do to prep for a spray tan?
Exfoliate: it’s always recommended that you exfoliate at least 8 hours prior to your spray tan appointment.
Do not sugar (or shave) the day of your appointment: it is advised that you wait at least 24 hours to avoid irritation.
Shower right before your appointment: this way your skin cells are hydrated and will absorb the tan more evenly for a longer lasting colour.
Avoid using oil and lotion beforehand: it’s important to keep your skin hydrated, but don’t use oil or lotion on the day of your appointment. It will interfere with the spray tan development. In fact, go totally au naturel. You should remove all makeup, deodorant and perfume with a cleansing wipe just before the spray. Your skin should be free from any products that could interfere with the spray tan.
Stop using retinoids and hydroxy acids: twenty-four hours before your appointment, cut out the retinoids and hydroxy acids in your skincare regimen. These ingredients increase cell turnover, which will cause your tan to fade more quickly. After getting a spray tan, some of the color may rub off onto your clothes. To avoid that issue, wear dark, loose clothes to your appointment. If you feel comfortable, skip your undergarments.
Don’t forget about your nails: discolored nails can be a dead giveaway of your faux tan, so paint your nails before going to your appointment. If you go to a nail salon, tell your manicurist, no oils, no massage — just a no-frills polish.
what do i need to do after my spray tan?
Stay dry: to help your tan develop, you’ll want to avoid all moisture for at least 8 hours after you get a spray tan. This includes showering, workouts, hot yoga, lotions, liquid foundation, etc. Staying dry will help the spray tan solution adhere to your skin.
Be mindful in the shower: when you shower, be gentle and only use oil-free cleansers. Avoid any exfoliants and just use the palm of your hand to gently rinse off the surface bronzer. Avoid harsh scrubbing, hot water, drying soaps, and other chemicals. Pat yourself dry instead of rubbing.
Stay moisturized: after your shower, moisturize with an oil-free moisturizer. Hydrated skin maintains a tan longer than dry, thirsty skin.
